Vibration sensors are used to detect external effects of a vibration nature and are widely used in anti-theft car systems, various burglar alarms, and allow detecting vibrations when an earthquake begins.
The main element of the sensor is a flexible metal spring located in the inner part of the plastic tube. In the presence of any influences on it, it begins to oscillate. The signal is amplified by feeding it first to an operational amplifier, and then to an analog-type output. Alternatively, the system detects single sensor short circuits and generates an alarm/presence signal.
The sensors can also be mercury (closing and opening contacts during vibration) and piezoelectric (generating EMF at the poles).
