This lamp can also be used in light traps for insects. Ultraviolet light attracts various insects well, in particular codling moth butterflies, as well as other widespread pests. Various designs of traps for catching and destroying insect pests are presented in the literature on gardening. The simplest option is to hang an ultraviolet lamp in the garden, and place a shallow but wide container of water under it at a short distance, to which machine oil (waste oil) or diesel fuel has been added.
Moths, attracted by ultraviolet light, circle around the lamp and fall into the water, getting stuck in the oil (you can use a more environmentally friendly option - sugar syrup, sweet compote, soap solution).
During the intense summer of the codling moth, such a simple “coxal” light trap is capable of destroying up to 200 pests per night.
