Interface IC
Thomas Kugelstadt Reducing the output delay of modern RS-485 transceivers at bus voltages above VCC
High-speed data lines using the RS-485 interface usually require fast bus access, that is, transmitted data can appear on the A and B lines of the bus almost instantly after activating the interface driver through the driver enable (DE) pin of the transmitter. Many modern circuits that use sophisticated output stages to minimize reverse leakage current can cause long delays when the bus voltage exceeds the supply voltage. At the same time, earlier transceivers create only a small delay between the output data and the enable signal. This article describes the problems caused by a long delay in the output signal, their root causes, and solutions to these problems.

Vladimir Karabanov Adaptive Image Correction ICs from ROHM Semiconductor
The Japanese company ROHM Semiconductor has developed an original technology for improving the quality of photo and video files in real time, which is based on the principle of adaptive image enhancement (AIE - Adaptive Image Enhancement). The company's family of microcircuits with the AIE function implemented in them allows to improve the quality of photo and video images received by cameras and security cameras in places with insufficient illumination (garages, underground parking lots, warehouses, storages, etc.). At the same time, the image is improved selectively, the microcircuit corrects only the most darkened parts of the picture, optimizing the brightness, color and contrast indicators without increasing the overall brightness of the picture.

Rob Reader, Corey Petersen AD9271 Revolutionary Handheld Ultrasound System From Analog Devices
Currently, medical ultrasound systems are among the most complex among the signal processing devices of widespread use. Analogous to radars or sonars, they operate at speeds orders of magnitude lower than radars, but faster than sonars. Beginning with portable ultrasound systems, the medical industry has applied this real-time technique for both early disease detection and general diagnosis. Over time, ultrasound systems have become more compact, and some have even shrunk to the size of a handheld computer. In the not too distant future, ultrasound systems will become specialized handheld personal computers (PDAs), although not as common as the physician's stethoscope. Some of the essential components of compactness will be discussed here.

Power electronics
Andrey Kolpakov Digital data transmission in IGBT drivers
To control high-power converter systems using IGBT modules with an operating voltage of 1200 V and above, isolated transmission of control pulses and status signals is required. This task is assigned to the driver, which is one of the most critical components of modern converters. SEMIKRON's latest development, the powerful SKYPER 52 gate control circuit, transmits control pulses and sensor signals using the principle of digital isolated data transmission. Due to this, the quality of the transmission carried out via the differential channel does not depend on the parameters of the circuit elements and the operating temperature.
