Attention! If a voltage greater than 6V is connected to the module input without presetting, it may damage the module!
 
Before connecting the main input voltage to this module, if it exceeds 6V, you need to preset the output voltage.
To do this, connect the 3-5V module input and, by rotating the trimmer axis counterclockwise to increase, set the required output voltage. It should be larger than the input. Keep in mind that the trimmer has many (10-30) turns to fully move the slider, and the active adjustment zone is only the last few turns.
If there is no 3-5V power source, you can do it differently. First, turn the trimmer counterclockwise to the maximum, setting it immediately to the maximum output voltage, and then gradually reduce the voltage to the required value by rotating the axis clockwise.

Cause:

The module is built according to a typical scheme fromdatasheet MT3608
 
 
It already has a pre-calculated voltage divider on two resistors for the desired output voltage.
In this module, instead of R1 there is a tuning resistor. The module diagram is as follows:
 
 
And the main drawback is immediately visible. When the trimmer slider is in the uppermost position according to the circuit, the entire input voltage will be at the input of the FB microcircuit (feedback), because there is a diode in the forward direction from the input. It is also known from the datasheet that the maximum voltage at the FB input should not exceed 6V.
 
 
If the trimmer is in the uppermost position and the input voltage exceeds 6V, the microcircuit will burn out. It will also burn out if, as a result, the voltage divider, being in a slightly lower position, forms a potential of more than 6V on the FB.
