USB-UART converter on CP2104 chip is an adapter for connecting devices that have a UART interface with a computer via USB, acting as a virtual serial port.
The CP2104 is an improved version of the CP2102 chip, from which it differs in an increased maximum data transfer rate and the presence of four GPIO ports. The converter can be used to program Arduino boards.
Like the CP2102, the CP2104 board has a DTR line that allows you not to manually press the RESET button when flashing the Arduino - this will be done automatically, like in standard Arduino boards.
For the computer operating system, the adapter looks like a standard virtual serial port (COM port), which means that it can be used with any software designed to work with a serial port (even the legacy of the RS-232 port). The CP2104 is a full-speed USB 2.0 device and can transfer at speeds up to 2 Mbps. Silicon Labs drivers are available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10. Linux, and Mac OS X.
