TPL tape (Duck Tape, TPL) – fabric-polyethylene tape.
Usually silver-gray in color due to the addition of aluminum powder to the polymer base.
It has high mechanical strength and water resistance.
Due to the waterproof nature of the adhesive composition, it is also called “plumbing tape”.
The tape is a film made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), reinforced on one side with a mesh of polyester fiber, on which an adhesive layer is applied. The reinforcement is organized in such a way that in the transverse direction the tape can easily be torn by hand, forming an even edge. But in the longitudinal direction the tape has very high strength. In some cases, reinforcement is made with fiberglass.
Duck Tape comes in a variety of colors and thicknesses, as well as roll widths.
When choosing a tape, check the thickness of the base. The most common thicknesses are 130 microns, 160 microns, 190 microns, 260 microns.
TPL tape is now widely available on the market. Conscientious manufacturers always provide information about the thickness of the tape. If there is no information, this is usually the thinnest film, 130 microns, and the adhesive layer also leaves much to be desired both in terms of saturation and the quality of the adhesive composition.
Reference information (based on materials from WIKIPEDIA):
Reinforced adhesive tapeduct tape orduck tape) is an adhesive tape, usually silver or black, made from cotton, polyester, nylon, rayon, or fiberglass mesh to provide strength. It was developed in 1942 by Revolite (modern Permacel) for military needs.[1] It was originally made from special cotton fabric (the so-called duck fabric[2]) and rubber-based glue. In the modern manufacturing process, a thin gauze fabric called a "mesh" is laminated onto a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) backing. The color of polyethylene is provided by various pigments; The silver color of the tape is obtained from mixing powdered aluminum with LDPE.
